In the realm of Education for Sustainable Development (BNE), the school welcomed a forester, engaging in various projects. The 4th-grade classes spearheaded the "Edible City" initiative, while the third-grade students planted trees in the forest, one for each child. Creative projects on topics like birdhouse construction and insect hotels were offered to the first and second graders. Altogether, there were 8 BNE projects undertaken, emphasizing the school's commitment to environmental education and sustainable practices.

Neunkirchen

Two schools and 14 classes took part in the campaign in Neunkirchen this year.

In GS Furpach, 10 classes participated in the campaign. Specifically, the 4th graders were on the move for Cleanup Day 2023, collecting climate footprints and garbage. At our elementary school, the school once again combined several activities. In the first two school weeks, they traditionally participate in the "Walk to School" campaign. For the second time, they joined the "World Cleanup Day" on September 15, 2023. Additionally, their 4th graders collected climate footprints at the ecological school retreat "Spohn's House" in Gersheim. In total, the classes collected 3,725 footprints, with the breakdown as follows:

  • Green: 2,708 footprints
  • Orange: 467 footprints
  • Blue: 550 footprints

In Maximilia-Kolbe-Grundschule, 4 classes participated in the campaign. In total, the classes collected 1,007 footprints, with the breakdown as follows:

  • Green: 779 footprints
  • Red: 109 footprints
  • Blue: 119 footprints

The children in Neunkirchen collected a total of 4,732 footprints. A great accomplishment!

Saarbrücken

During the specified period, several institutions in Saarbrücken, including GS SB Hohe Wacht, Grundschule Furpach, Grundschule Tholey-Theley, Katholische Kita Maria Himmelfahrt, GS Mandelbachtal, Grundschule Heusweiler, GS Montessori Rußhütte, Grundschule Merzig-Hilbringen, Grundschule Kirkel-Neuhäusel, Maximilian-Kolbe Grundschule, Grundschule Saarbrücken Ost, Grundschule Lindenschule, Grundschule Pflugscheid, and Ganztagsgrundschule Saarbrücken-Scheidt, actively participated in the Green Footprints campaign.

After four weeks, the "Kids for Climate Action" project at Hohe Wacht Elementary School came to an end. Children, teachers and parents were happy with the Green Footprints that were collected  and already know that they would like to participate again next year.

The GS Hohe Wacht collected a total of 9,052 Green Footprints - almost twice as many as the school had expected. This will easily get them to Dubai for the UN Climate Change Conference. Many thanks for the great commitment!

A total of 2,974 green footprints, 147 blue footprints, 108 yellow footprints, and 127 orange footprints were collected collectively by these institutions. Additionally, the institutions were involved in various environmental projects and activities, demonstrating their commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability.
