Primary School "Jan Amos Komenski"
4th Grade Student Initiative | 4th–11th October 2026

From October 4th to October 11th,  the 4th-grade students of Primary School “Jan Amos Komenski” actively participated in the "Green Footprints", organized as part of Mobility Week.

The campaign involved 50 students from the 4th grade, organized into four working groups. During the activity week the students together collect 432 green footprints.

The main aim of the campaign was to raise students’ awareness about environmental protection, sustainable mobility, and the importance of reducing air pollution caused by transportation.

Through various educational and creative activities, students were encouraged to adopt environmentally friendly habits and inspire others to make greener choices in their everyday lives.

1. Collecting Green Footprints

During the campaign week, the students collected a total of 432 Green Footprints by choosing environmentally friendly ways of travelling, such as walking, cycling, and using sustainable means of transportation. Each Green Footprint represented a positive step towards reducing pollution and protecting our planet.

2. Wear Green Collars

To symbolize their commitment to environmental protection, students encouraged themselves to wear something green throughout the week. This simple but powerful visual act helped to unite participants and draw attention to the campaign within the school and the local community.

3. Essay Writing: "How I imagine the world without pollution"

As part of the campaign, students wrote essays on the topic  “How I Imagine the World Without Pollution.”  Through their writing, they shared their hopes and dreams for a future with clean air, green cities, healthy nature, and environmentally responsible people. This activity forstered critical thinking, imagination, and a deeper understanding of the importance of environmental protection.

4. Drawing Activity – “My Green Surroundings"

Students expressed their creativity through drawings inspired by the theme  “My Green Surroundings.”

Their artwork illustrated their vision of a clean, healthy, and green environment, with less traffic pollution, more trees, clean air, and safe spaces for walking and cycling.

5. Creating  Environmental Awareness Messages

Students wrote creative and thought-provoking messages to raise awareness about air pollution caused by transportation. Through their messages, they encouraged classmates, teachers, families, and the wider community to reduce car use, choose sustainable ways of travelling, and take responsibility for protecting the environment.

The powerful slogans you can see on the right, written in Macedonian - we tried to transfere some of them into English for you:

  • The car is not a skin, you don’t have to wear it to school
  • Air is for free – let’s not pay for it with exhaust fumes
  • Every clean breath is the best gift for our lungs

  • Step by step brings us faster to school than sitting in the rush hour in front of it
  • Less gas, more smiles before school

  • My backpack is heavy, but at least it doesn’t emit black smoke from my shoulder

  • This is where we live. Thank you for letting us breathe clean air

The school coordinator of the green Footprints Campaign at Primary School “Jan Amos Komenski” wrote us:

“The campaign not only helped students understand the importance of sustainable mobility but also inspired them to become responsible citizens who care for their surroundings and the future of our planet.”
