Primary School "Jan Amos Komenski"
5th Grade Student Initiative | 5th–10th October 2025

From October 5th to October 10th, 2025, the 5th-grade students of Primary School “Jan Amos Komenski” actively participated in the "Green Footprints".

The campaign involved 103 students from the 5th grade, organized into four working groups. Over the activity week of five days, the students collectively collect 741 green footprints.

Throughout the activity week, students took part in several creative and impactful actions, which included:

1. Eco Detectives

Students took on the role of environmental investigators by identifying and documenting critical points along their daily routes from home to school. These included dangerous crossings, lack of sidewalks, or areas with heavy traffic — all of which could discourage walking or cycling to school.

2. Wear Green Day

To symbolize their commitment to environmental protection, students were encouraged to wear something green each day. This simple but powerful visual act helped to unite participants and draw attention to the campaign within the school and the local community.

3. Essay Writing: "My Imaginary City Without Cars"

Each student wrote a creative essay imagining a future city with no cars. These essays focused on cleaner air, quieter streets, more green spaces, and safer roads for walking and cycling. The activity fostered critical thinking about urban planning and the long-term benefits of sustainable living.

4. Guerrilla Action: Messages to Drivers

In one of the most impactful activities of the week, students prepared provocative eco-messages and distributed them to drivers near the school. They placed notes on car windshields and handed flyers to motorists, promoting reflection on daily car usage.

Some of the powerful slogans included (originally written in Macedonian, with English translations):

  • “Секој издувен гас е облак за нашите бели дробови!”
“Every exhaust gas is a cloud for our lungs!”
  • “Еден велосипед = еден чист здив!”
“One bicycle = one clean breath!”
  • “Дали ти треба кола за 500 метри?”
“Do you really need a car for 500 meters?”

These messages were designed to provoke thought and encourage more responsible transportation choices among parents and other drivers.
