ESCHBORN
After a short break, many institutions in Eschborn took part again this year: children at seven municipal childcare centers—with a total of about 600 children—collected items diligently. A total of approximately 3,500 “climate miles” were collected. (Amid all the creativity, some centers forgot to note down the exact number of miles, so the organizers at City Hall had to estimate or extrapolate some of the figures.)
The daycare centers diligently documented their activities and the children’s ideas on large posters and through “wish feet.” The children expressed a desire for better infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians, as well as greater consideration for the environment (more trash cans, less litter, and more trees). Some also called for a car-free day, as well as free bike rentals within the city limits. The topic of gardening and biodiversity was also addressed; for example, the children raised butterflies, built insect hotels, and planted small vegetable gardens.
The children from the Schillerstraße, Ritterhof, Dörnweg, Süd-West, and Odenwaldstraße daycare centers, as well as from the Hartmutschule after-school program and the Berliner Straße after-school care center, had planned to present their posters to representatives of Eschborn’s local government on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, as part of a large closing event. However—and one cannot deny a certain irony here—the presentation of their climate policy wishes had to be canceled due to the heat.
First City Councilor Bärbel Grade therefore visited the participating facilities instead. She accepted the colorfully designed posters and brought fresh fruit, sidewalk chalk, and certificates as a thank-you for the children’s efforts. She believes: “Through their participation in the ‘Kindermeilen’ campaign, kindergarten and schoolchildren—along with their parents—are sending a clear message worldwide that no contribution to climate protection is too small. I’m delighted to see how many children here in Eschborn are already doing their part for climate protection and advocating for a sustainable future.”
We can only agree and say a big thank you to everyone in Eschborn for such dedication!
In Offenbach, many schools and several kindergartens took part again in 2026!
This year, over 2,700 children participated and together contributed 23,860 climate miles—a big thank you to the children from:
Anne Frank School, Beethoven School, Eichendorff School, Erich Kästner School, Mauerfeld School (elementary level of Geschwister Scholl School), Buchhügel Elementary School, Humboldt School, Lauterborn School, Bieber-Waldhof Elementary School, Bieber-Nord School, Tempelsee Forest School, Wirbelwind Children’s House, Lachwiesen Daycare Center, and Drachennest Daycare Center.
The Erich-Kästner School surprised us with their DIY scrapbook—a fresh take on the concept. Even after more than 20 years of Kindermeilen, we can still be surprised!
The classes at the Erich-Kästner School came up with something special for this year’s campaign week:
The children simply cut out the weekly calendar from their sticker book and glued it onto a large sheet of paper. They decorated the sheet a bit and drew spaces for the stickers, and then the group was ready to collect together.
Of course, that makes us especially happy!
We’re already excited to see what you’ll come up with next year!
